The objects of study can be a fortress, a large estate, a palace or even a small house by a distinguished family or national icon of arts, science, politics or government. The owner who lives in the minds and hearts of people usually lives an imaginative life with particular hobbies and living habits that can be inspiring to others. He might be an art collector,( M.M. Khalil ) , ,a poet (Ahmed Shawky) a traveler (A . Hossein) , a scientist (Edison) ,a musician (Bethoven,Mozart), an artist (Seif Wanelly), ), a writer (Taha Hussain), a singer (Om Kalsoum),…etc. After they passed away, their special memorable houses are no more sustainable with different occupiers in different economic circumstances. They will be sold to un-interested investors who will demolish it and up will grow a sky scrapper or a multi – store garage.
Fortunately we have new laws, 144 year 2006 &119 year 2008 that, will help to face such practices and save them from such horrible end.
Now how we deal with new owners to preserve such memorable but expensive to maintain houses. Interested investors, governments (ministry of Culture) governorates, hotel chains, non-governmental organizations, among others, will offer financial and cultural chances for enlighted renewal and reuse ventures to establish their role in society as sustainable heritage. In future roles these places should offer continuing cultural functions; museums, libraries, cultural centers etc. as well as historical inspirations in architectural spaces that is difficult to duplicate materially and emotionally.
The paper will discuss three late 20C personal professional experiences in homes of an art collector, one royal prince and a poet living in the early part of the century.
Each venture had particular contentual( functional and structural) formal and conceptual problems to solve and record.
